Coping With The Bullying That Can Result From Private Tutoring
Whilst private tutoring is now more popular than ever, there is still for many students that receive it a stigma attached by their peers. This kind of view is especially common in working class and inner city areas where levels of education aren’t great. If you are a victim of this kind of abuse from some of your fellow pupils you may well wonder why it is that they do it and how you can deal with it.
A bully’s problems
Bullies tend to pick on others as a way of deflecting attention from their own shortcomings. So if they are bullying you for receiving private tutoring it could be that they are conscious about their own level of intelligence in a certain area. It could even be that their parent doesn’t give them the support that they require in terms of their schoolwork and that they are jealous of the fact that your parents do.
How to react
In the event that you are about to begin private tutoring but haven’t yet told anyone else, then it could be wise to just keep it to yourself. If you have already begun your tutoring sessions and it is common knowledge, then ways with dealing with any problems depend on how severe things have become.
If it is simply a little bit of teasing then just grin and bear it, or perhaps laugh along and even make fun of yourself. The bully is always looking for a reaction and if they don’t get the one they are looking for they will soon move on.
Taking things further
In the event that the verbal abuse has become too much to deal with or has even moved on to physical abuse, then it is time to speak to an adult. Either speak to your parents about the situation, or go to a teacher that you respect and trust.
