All The Basics of UK Tax

The word tax has its origins from the Latin word taxo that means guess. It’s a finance charge that’s levied on people ( tax payers ) by the state authorities or any other kind of corporation that’s answerable for collecting revenue on behalf of the state. If an individual fails to pay the tax due on them then they’re punishable by law.

Taxes are made of 2 parts. There are the direct taxes and the indirect taxes. The majority of the taxes must be paid in money terms while some of the others are took from labour payments. Tax can be labeled as a burden that is laid on people and property owners. The purpose and aim of tax is to help as a cash stream for the govt. and the reassignment of wealth.

Tax is not voluntary. An individual cannot back out of paying it. Instead it is owing by all of those that meet the conditions. It is imposed by the government and is to be collected by the tax authorities and if an individual does not pay the tax due on them then they’re punishable by the legislation. Tax can be given lots of names like the tax, property tax, capital gains tax, import tax, inheritance tax for example.

There is a difference between the meaning of tax from a legal and industrial point of view. From an economists point of view tax is the compulsory transfer of resources, which is not a punishment or fine, from the tax payers to the govt. . This payment is figured out on the supposition of ground rules that have already been set for this exact purpose e.g. The rate of tax.

This differentiates the non penal payments to the government from the penal ones. For instance, fines paid by commuters for moving violations are not taxes. In a similar fashion there are more payments to the govt. that are neither taxes nor fines. These payments can be considered to be as prices of goods as services bought. For example, the installation charges for an individuals BT land line is not a tax and neither a fine. In a similar way, the fees paid by students to get enrolled in varsities that are state owned are not tax and neither are they fines.

Taxes used to be levied in non-monetary terms such as in-kind but in the modern world they’re levied in money terms. In the UK taxes are collected by Her Majestys Income and Customs.
