The word tax has its origins from the Latin word taxo meaning guess. It is a fiscal charge that is levied upon people ( tax payers ) by the state authorities or any other sort of corporation that is accountable for collecting cash for the state. If a person fails to pay the tax due on them then they are punishable by law.
Taxes are composed of two parts. There are the direct taxes and the indirect taxes. The majority of the taxes must be paid in money terms while some of the others are deducted from labour payments. Tax can be labeled as a burden that is laid upon individuals and property owners. The purpose and purpose of tax is to assist as a money stream for the government and the redistribution of wealth.
Tax is not voluntary. An individual cannot opt out of paying it. Instead it is due by all of those who meet the conditions. It is imposed by the govt. and is to be collected by the tax authorities and if a person does not pay the tax due on them then they are punishable by the law. Tax can be given a lot of names like the income tax, property tax, capital gains tax, import tax, inheritance tax for example.
There is a difference between the meaning of tax from a legal and industrial point of view. From an economists point of view tax is the compulsory transfer of resources, which is not a punishment or fine, from the tax payers to the government. Likewise, the costs paid by students to get signed up to universities that are government owned are not tax and neither are they fines.
Taxes used to be levied in non-monetary terms such as in-kind but in the modern world they are levied in money terms. In the UK taxes are collected by Her Majestys Cash and Customs.
